Our Family Story
Our hearts have always been drawn to growing our family through adoption and natural means. We believe deeply in providing a loving, creative, and nurturing home to a child, and we are beyond excited to be taking this next step in our journey. We are moving forward in this process after building a firm foundation and we look forward to continuing to grow as a family!
As we move forward, we want to be transparent about the financial commitment involved. Adoption comes with significant expenses, including agency fees, legal costs, home studies, travel, and post-placement requirements. These costs can add up quickly. For this reason, we have set a modest fundraising goal of assist by covering half of the cost, as we move through this process responsibly and without delay. We are applying for several grants and fun ways to donate as well. We will keep this site updated with positve updates, as well as creative ways to donate through our country of choice.
When we initially set out to adopt we set up a plan with a Coffee Company to assist us. Everyone was refunded. This needed to be close to the last step. It is important to follow all of the steps throughout the close to three year process and follow the rules set by both the United States and the country we adopt from.
Our hope in sharing this journey is not simply about financial support—it is about community. We want to invite you into this process so that you can walk alongside us, celebrate milestones with us, and see yourself as part of the loving village surrounding our future child or sibling pair. As our family grows, we want them to know they were welcomed by a community filled with generosity, kindness, and love.
Thank you for supporting us in any way you can—whether through donations, sharing our story, prayers, encouragement, or simply cheering us on. We are doing everything we can to welcome a new life into our family, and we are so grateful to have you as part of this journey with us.
We are Brooke and Ted Miller, a loving couple from the coast of Virginia. We met each other in Maine and traveled here for work opportunities. We enjoy attending neighborhood gatherings, summer activities in Maine and hiking with our cavapoo Jerry Snuggles.
We have now been maried for 13 years; it's a lucky number for us too. It was Brooke's ski coaching number. Brooke and Ted have enjoyed many great adventures together. We enjoy watersports, reading, a mutual respect of animals, art and exploring in nature. Ted's family has several ministers in the family and my family is filled with physicians. We both love all the arts.
Brooke graduated with multiple degrees. Professionally, her in Creative Arts with a Specialization in Curriculumn Development and her work experience as an educator and coach prepared her well for the types of positions including her current role in Marketing. Her favorite jobs have involved an element of coaching children.
We believe that we could contribute greatly to our child's life by encouraging our child or sibling pair to embrace a sense of wonder in the world. It is our commitment to serve the community, as well. We enjoy participating in beach clean ups at our neighborhood club when we are not on family outings.
Ted graduated with a dual major in History and English continuing on to study Family Law. He has practiced for thirteen years, and even expands his practice as needed. Upon moving to Virginia, Brooke set out to ensure performers were able to fulfill their dreams to act regionally. She also tutored local students as they decided what areas they might like to focus on in the future. This work lead her to wanting to host students from foreign countries while working for the sending organization.
We look forward to providing a loving and accepting home for a child or sibling pair. Together, we offer a comittment to fostering a loving, honest and empowering environment.
Perhaps it is worth mentioning that we have enjoyed a dress rehearsal to adoption. We hosted students from Italy and Norway two years ago. We realized that we truly would like to adopt children who are slightly younger because time moves very quickly with kids and we hope to enjoy it.
Brooke lived and worked in the Bahamas and she learned that with the proper care it is true that Every Child Counts. The second school she worked at there was called Every Child Counts after she worked in Hope Town. The atmosphere at Every Child Counts was extraordinary. There she worked with a graduate of Lesley with the type of degree she studied. She learned that the key to creating an inclusive, harmonious environment for students was to keep the structure consistent and when students engaged in quiet reading time, they were placed in their own unique section of the reader, so they were not made to feel left out. Bathroom time was also never restricted as some children were from homes where they were neglected and they were fed breakfast, lunch and snack. The students at general assemblies in the country were better behaved than the students from the other locations.
We have hope for our future as parents. Thank you for considering assisting us with our adoption!
Love from our home to yours,
Brooke and Ted
