We're looking for another Payne!
Ronit and Josh
Tulsa, OK
In January of 2021, Ronit had returned from working in Kolkata, India. There was a storm which raged in her soul, brokenhearted for the women she served who were escaping sex-trafficking. At the same time, Joshua felt the winds of change pulling him out west. He craved a new adventure, away from the small town in KY.
We had our first date on 1/23/21. We had coffee, and put together a puzzle Josh had brought. He knew Ronit loved puzzles, coffee, sushi, and ice cream, so naturally, he included all of these things into our first date. Conversation flowed easily as the hours passed.
We both had enjoyed full lives of travel, college, careers and adventure. Josh had always feared settling down because he thought married life would be boring. However, after he met Ronit, he knew his best adventure lay ahead of him. Ronit’s heart was still hurt from Kolkata and the transition back to living in America, where so much is taken for granted. However, God provided her with something she had not felt in months: hope. Our love grew as we opened up, sharing past hurts and future dreams. We fell in love quickly, fully knowing each of us was the person God had set aside for one another.
A nerd and hopeless romantic at heart, Joshua proposed to Ronit among the synchronous fireflies of the Smoky Mountains the summer after they met. After taking a cross-country road trip to decide where we would start our lives together, we settled on Tulsa, OK, where most of Ronit’s family are located. We moved to Tulsa in December 2021. In the spring of 2022, we bought our home and had our wedding in April.
Joshua settled into his new position, as Ronit began the path towards obtaining her degree in nursing. We traveled to Tahiti for our honeymoon where we swam with sharks, enjoyed scuba diving, 4-wheeling, and tried our hand at spear-fishing. We spent the first couple years of our marriage finding our stride, as we traveled. As the months passed by, we were unsure if we would be able to get pregnant. The following summer, in 2023, we were thrilled to learn we were pregnant with our daughter Aviel. We welcomed her the following January. She has been a pure delight.
Both Ronit and I loved the idea of adoption for our family. Because of this, we decided that our second child would be adopted. We planned to pursue this venture sometime in 2028-2030. In Autumn of 2024, we discovered we were pregnant. Ronit and I decided that I would get a vasectomy in December, knowing that 2 biological children and one adopted child would be the max number of children we wanted. Sadly, on Christmas Day 2024, Ronit received an email which included her 9 week ultrasound results, stating that the pregnancy was not viable. We grieved the loss of our pregnancy, and realized that God had used the loss of that pregnancy to prepare our hearts for adoption years before we anticipated.
In the spring of 2025, as Aviel was exploring her big personality, we decided to take the first steps towards adoption. Between the two of us, we have traveled to nearly all 50 states and have explored over 25 countries around the world. However, none of that compares to this next adventure, as we step out in faith towards adoption. The storms may rage, the winds may blow, but through it all, God has given us peace with each choice we have made and we are trusting He will continue to fulfill His promise for us for the journey ahead.
