In the summer of 2023, I welcomed a 13-year-old girl from Colombia into my home. Despite having never left her home country, and having lived the past several years in an orphanage, she jumped right in, spending countless hours swimming, watching movies, cooking, making art, and laughing with me, my friends and family. Near the end of her visit, she played "Under My Umbrella" by Rheanna, tears in her eyes and soon in mine.
Older children face huge huddles in being adopted, even more so children with special needs or from certain countries. Without a permanent home, many age out without the support of a family.
