If there can be surprise pregnancies, then this is our surprise adoption. We thought our family was complete; four kids seemed like a reasonable number to us.  However, God had other plans.

On the other side of the world, there was a boy who wanted/needed a family. Someone would need to travel to China and adopt him before his birthday in early November, a family that could provide the surgical care for his cleft palate and beyond.  So after seeing this information on the Red Thread Association website, we began to pray that someone would adopt him and give him the forever family he desperately wanted. First Sara, and then Kent, felt that they might be the answer to their own prayers.

Time is not on our side, but God is.  We will need to complete our paperwork/dossier in the next 2-3 months, in order to give both the American and Chinese governments the time necessary to process our documents. As a point of reference, paperwork alone for our last adoption took over six months.

We and our adoption agency believe we can accomplish the task.  "If God is for us, who can be against us?" Please pray with us that we would be attentive to His leading and that His will would be clear.  We would also ask that you pray for the enormous transition that is about to happen in our son's life.

Some have asked how they can help. Our first need is prayer. We would ask for endurance: the pace at which our paperwork/dossier is due is at times difficult. We also request prayer for our son in China and our family in the U.S as we prepare for each other.  Our second need would be funds. As soon as our home study is updated we will be applying for several very promising grants. If you would like to contribute financially, you may click the appropriate tabs on this site. All funds you donate will be used toward our adoption costs

  1. Things are moving along. Our immigration paperwork is with USCIS/ Homeland Security. We would appreciate your prayers for USCIS to expedite our paperwork. Thank you for your prayers and encouragement.

(We will be giving him the English name Luke.) Luke will be receiving some pictures and some information about us this week. Please pray for him as he processes this information.
