Petke Family Adoption Journey

Hello from Fred and Shawna! 

We have been married since June 2009.  We have a wonderful, supportive, peaceful, and loving marriage.  We have no children due to infertility.  Though we have a fulfilling marriage already, we both feel a void in our family, and believe a child would bring us so much joy. We believe we will be able to provide a Christ-centered, secure, loving home for a baby.  Shawna has been a middle school social studies teacher investing herself in the lives of children for 18 years now.  Fred, a veteran newspaper reporter, is a "natural" with children and rarely misses an opportunity for peek-a-boo with a child.  We would very much love the opportunity to grow our own family and adoption is the way we believe God is leading us to do that.  

We have been raising money to adopt a baby for two years now.  We have raised most of the money through cutting unnecessary things from our household budget, but also through various fundraising efforts.  We have done two yard sales (one of which was hosted by our church family) and we also hosted various fundraising parties: Pampered Chef, DoTerra, Norwex, Thirty-One, and That's My Pan.  We have also done two trivia night fundraisers complete with a bake sale and a silent auction.  Through these efforts we have managed to raise most of the money we need.  However, we still don't have enough to complete the adoption.
