Hello!  We are Evan Hildebrandt and Alison Shepard Hildebrandt, and we are so excited to finally begin our adoption journey!  We have been married 21 years and have longed to have children of our own but were never able to do so. Adoption has been a dream of ours, and we have decided to take a leap of faith toward that dream! 

We have recently been accepted into Nightlight Christian Adoptions Bulgaria program!  Bulgaria has one of the highest populations of Roma people in Europe.   The Roma people are sometimes referred to as Gypsies and originally come from Northern India in the Punjab region.  Over a thousand years ago, they began traveling throughout Europe.  They have been persecuted for centuries and often struggle with poverty and lack of resources that many of us take for granted in America.

We have a heart for adopting two Romani siblings for several reasons.  Adopting from Europe feels like a good fit for us because we were married in Europe, had family who lived in Europe and have traveled to Western Europe many times over the years.  During our travels, we encountered the rich and vibrant Romani culture in traditional folk music and dancing, as well as the Romani influence on Spanish culture and Flamenco music.  We also, however, encountered many homeless Roma people in our travels and would stop to pray for them and buy them food or give them shoes when they were barefoot.  Because of the social stigma the Roma people have endured, Bulgarian orphanages are filled with many Roma children, especially older children and sibling groups.  There are not many great options for Roma children who do not get adopted. It is not an easy thing for Roma people to get good jobs because of the prejudice against them. It is for this reason that we have decided to adopt an older Romani sibling group. Our dream is to be able to keep two siblings together and provide them with a loving home and all the opportunities that becoming Americans would have to offer them.

Evan and I have been waiting to become parents for a very long time. Would you be willing to consider helping us accomplish our dream? As Christians, we believe that adoption is a ministry to God. But adoption can be a very expensive endeavor and often costs more than having a baby. This is a faith journey for us, and we are trusting that God will move the hearts of others to help us be the hands and feet of Jesus on earth. We believe that God has two siblings waiting for us to become their parents. Will you help us bring our children home?

If your heart is moved by our dream and you feel called to help, we would be so very grateful for your support. Your gifts will help cover the many legal fees and administrative costs of adoption.  We also have to travel to Bulgaria twice in order to be able to adopt, and your generosity can help us fund our travel costs to bring our children home.  We will be updating our journey on our website, and sharing all the fees we will be seeking help with funding.  Your donations are tax deductible and are for a great cause to impact the lives of two siblings who just want to be able to stay together and become part of a loving family.
