Awaiting a New Adventure

We are the Durham family and desire to adopt our second child through domestic adoptions. We have wanted to adopt for a long time and are excited to finally get to put this wish into action! We'd love to share our story.

Our love story: We met on the steps of our church in Dallas in 2014. Brian wasn't brave enough to ask Charis out in person, but later built up the courage and asked her out in a Facebook message. This story makes us laugh now! We liked each other right away and dated for about a year before getting engaged. We quickly realized we had a shared compassion for children. Brian is a school teacher and has a heart for children of all different backgrounds. Charis has worked in children's ministries for years and continues to mentor young girls. Her desire for adoption has grown as she has gotten closer and more involved in the lives of the children she mentors.

After marriage, we decided to pursue becoming parents both biologically and through adoption. God gave us a child biologically first. We have a daughter named Joelle, who is almost 2 years old. We love being parents to this little girl but cannot wait to grow our family next through adoption. We think Joelle will be amazing big sister!

We plan to raise our children with a diversity of experiences. We see our role as encouragers, giving them many opportunities so that they can find and develop the gifts God has given them. We hope to parent not just biological but also adopted children because we love both, and believe they both need equal love and opportunity.
