This past June (2024) we received a call from my sister in law letting us know that the younger sister who is mentally ill was about to have her second baby in July and she could not receive the new baby. She asked us if we would be willing to take the baby instead of the baby being sent to foster care. We didn't stutter or hesitate and gladly accepted the blessing. Initially the department of children and families was going to handle everything, but since my sister in law (mentally ill) was willingly surrendering the child, DCF would no longer handle the termination of parent rights or adoption and now we have to get our own attorney and pay for it ourselves. Unfortunately, we were not prepared for this new expense and now we are seeking assistance. The baby has been living with us since he is 2 days old and has already become an intergral part of our family.
