Domestic Adoption

Our names are Luke and Jerusha and we live in Fort Worth, Texas with our 4-year-old daughter, Celeste. We don’t want to assume what you’re feeling or thinking right now, but we’re not strangers to unplanned pregnancy.

We were married only five months when we found out we were pregnant. It’s amazing how the simple knowledge that a little life is growing inside of you seems to change everything. Please know that we are praying for you and your child as you are faced with so many thoughts, emotions, and decisions. Although we have one biological child, adoption was always our first choice when thinking about growing our family and different experiences have molded that desire. For example, two of Jerusha’s cousins were formally adopted by step-parents and she grew up with several families that were formed through international adoption. Additionally, our college ministry pastor and his wife, after having a biological child, adopted three children from China. We spent a lot of time with them and loved how close-knit and engaged their family was with each other. We hope to provide a home that is woven together and supportive in a similar way.

Truth be told, we are a pair of Spanish-speaking, tree-huggers from Oregon. Our story starts at Oregon State University, where we discovered that we had many shared interests: language learning, ballroom dancing, international travel, fitness, reading, an itch to get outdoors, and a deep-set desire to serve the Lord overseas. After graduating in June 2013, Jerusha moved to North Texas to take a teaching position through Teach For America. Luke then moved to Texas several months later, and after a short engagement we were married in July 2014. We originally planned to pursue more schooling for overseas ministry, but due to various circumstances, Jerusha continues to teach science with the same school district that she started with 7 years ago. Luke is a stay-at-home dad with a part-time job making deliveries in the evenings and on the weekends.

Though we may gripe about the Texas heat, we love that the Lord has brought us to Fort Worth and the diversity of people and experiences we get to build into our lives. We live in a peaceful 3-bedroom apartment splashed with colorful paintings and black-and-white photos of far off places. And we won’t lie: everything in our house is from IKEA. It is a quiet neighborhood, away from the hustle of downtown, although we are still close to schools, a mall, a YMCA, a local library, a used bookstore, and several restaurants.  There are also several parks nearby, some with huge playgrounds and others with fields and nice shaded trails—so our frightfully pale skin doesn’t fry in the Texas sun—that we like to visit in the late afternoons and on weekends. If we can’t get outside and romp around, we settle for eccentric or chic craft coffee shops to enjoy some slow, pun-filled conversations with each other. Although we feel the Pacific Northwest is home—where our families are based—we have roots in Texas, and friends in our church have become our new family. We celebrate together, mourn together, babysit one another’s kids, bring each other meals, encourage each other, pray for one another, and above all love one another deeply. Our church faithfully supports and encourages adoption and these people are excited to meet and love any child placed with us.

We are praying for peace, strength, and the absolute best for you and your child, no matter what you choose.

Humbly, Luke & Jerusha
