We are Jason and Katie and today, the paths of our lives are crossing with yours through this letter. Our path has included big hopes and dreams for our family, a cancer diagnosis, and a life changing surgery that both took away the cancer and took away any chance of us getting pregnant. We don’t know the details of your life, but we know that you are in the midst of some big decisions and that you love the child growing inside you very much. Our paths are different, but today, they intersect as we decide our paths forward.
To let you know a little more about us, we have been married for three and a half years and live in a warm, four-bedroom home in the cul-de-sac of a tree lined street full of families and kids. We met in Ethiopia when we were both working for a Christian ministry and we hit it off from the start. We dated in Arkansas, and a year later we were engaged. Our wedding day was on a beautiful fall day surrounded by colorful trees and all of our friends and family. Since then, we have moved to central Texas where Jason is an engineer in Austin and Katie works from home, selling her colorful watercolor paintings. With Katie working from home, running her own business, she is looking forward to being a stay at home mom when we are blessed with a child. On the weekends, we enjoy exploring Austin and finding big, open parks and cozy coffee shops where we can spend our afternoons. Our favorite place to visit, though, is the beach where we go several times a year. As much as we enjoy our day to day life, what we feel called to is to be a mom and a dad, raising a sweet child together. Our family is very excited about us adopting and with two family members having babies this fall, they are excited that we are growing our family as well.
In January of 2017, after trying to get pregnant for over a year, Katie was diagnosed with cancer. Katie’s doctor said it was very treatable but to get rid of the cancer, Katie had to have a surgery that would also end any chance of having kids. It was a devastating journey but with cancer behind us, we are again looking forward to growing our family. We both have family members that have been adopted and now with it being the only opportunity for us to grow our family, we are excited to see what God has in store for us.
We would love to meet you, hear your story, and share more of ours. We are open to whatever type of communication you feel comfortable with. If you select us as parents, we would be happy to maintain a relationship with you through pictures and letters throughout the child’s life and as you feel comfortable, we would be more than willing to maintain a more open relationship with you as well.
We are praying for you as your make these difficult decisions and as you plan the path for your life moving forward, we pray it is a life full of hope.
With love, Jason & Katie
