We are so grateful that you are reading this letter. We can’t begin to imagine how difficult this time is. We respect you and your selfless decision, and admire you for considering adoption.
Fabiana and I met 15 years ago at the International Ball at the U.S. Naval Academy. I was a young midshipman, preparing to be a Naval Officer, and she was a beautiful au pair from Brazil (she’s still beautiful!). It sounds like a fairytale, and for almost 11 years we’ve been married, living happily ever after. We always talked about adopting. We’re both from large families and wanted a full house. After years of trying naturally and three failed rounds of IUI, we were unable to conceive. It took us a while to get over the pain of infertility, but we’re finally ready to pursue adopting.
Though we have no children of our own, we have five nephews and two nieces ranging from 16 years old to a few months old. Two are here in the US and five are in Brazil with Fabiana’s side of the family. While my Navy career keeps us moving, we spend as much time with them as we can. We love to play outside in the park near our house or on the lake where my parents live. We also like to play board games (Rummikub is our favorite!) and recently baked cakes from scratch. We have great relationships with them and the rest of our extended family. Everyone is supportive and excited about our adoption journey.
As you consider the difficult decision of planning for your child, know that we care and want to help. We will be praying for you. May God bless you, whatever you decide.
Jac O. and Fabiana
